Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-239 IE Bulletin 79-03A This letter is in response to your letter of April 4, 1980, transmitting IE Bulletin 79-03A concerning longitudinal weld defects in ASME SA-312 type 30* ctainless steel pipe.
A review was performed of the safety-related systems, including the Building Spray, Chemical Addition and Sampling, Core Flooding, Decay Heat, Make-Up and Purification, Pressurizer, Spent Fuel Cooling, Waste Disposal (Liquid and Gas) and the Waste Disposal Vents and Drains which are identified as using SA-312, type 304 series fusion welded pipe.
This review has shown that the piping meets the requirements as specified in the subject bulletin. That is, the code requirements for pressure design are satisfied using 85% of the maximum allowable stress.
This letter fully responds to the subject bulletin and completes our response to this item.
