UNIT 1 - NRC TLD LOCATIONS Gentlcmen:

Thic letter is with regard to the preoperational environmental protection . inspection conducted August _6-8, 1980 at Zimmer Station by NRC Region III personn'dl.' During this inspection, NRC placed thirty-seven (37) thermal luminescent dosimeters (TLD's) on utility poles within a five (5) mile radius of Zimmer Station. Utility pole identification numbers were provided to CG&E by the NRC inspectors after the TLD's had been installed.

Based on the pole numbers provided, CG&E has compiled the attached list of pole locations, indicating ownership and whether the poles are used jointly by both telephone and electric lines. CG&E can only provide authorization for installation of the TLD packets on those poles owned and used exclusively by CG&E.

You should.also be aware that these TLD packets may need to be removed during maintenance or repair operations, at which time they will be returned by mail. In addition, CG&E will not be responsible for damage to the TLD's or be liable for any personal injury which is a result of the TLD locations. ,

In summary, we would appreciate that, in the future, advanct notice be provided when utility poles are to be used for the location of monitoring devices or similar equipment.
