Dear Mr. Boyle:
This is in response to your letter dated September 29, 1980 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, the reason and data upon which the TMI Commission based its public health and safety conclusions and whether 2.4 million or 13. million curies of gas were vented.
The Kemeny Report, " Report of the President's Commission on the Accident 4
l at Three Mile Island" wa's not produced by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Also, a3 stated in Volume II, Part 2, Three Mile Island - A Report to tFe Commissioners and the Public, beginning on page 360, the NRC staff's best estimate is 2.4 million curies.
NRC staff has advised this office that the report and all related 1
documentation is available for inspection and copying at the NRC Public Document Room, 1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20555 The charge for reproducing records located in the PDR is five cents ($0.05) per page, as specified in 10 CFR 9.14(a).
Copies of these documents can be purchased by writing directly to the PDR.
Upon your agreement to pay the reproduction charges, the PDR will arrange for the records to be reproduced by Literature Research Company, a private reproduction contractor servicing the PDR.
You will be billed by Literature Research Company for the reproduction charges, plus tax and postage.
