Dear Sir:

A Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO), 3.7.8.1 of the Trojaa Technical Specifications, requires that a special report be provided in the event of inoperability of the fire suppression system. System operability as de-fined by Paragraph B of the referenced LCO will not se met during a planned maintenance overhadl of the diesel-driven fire pump. The inspection in-cludes preventative maintenance on the diesel engine as well as the pump.

In addition, the pump also will be coated with a corrosion inhibitor at this time. This letter represents the initial notification and follow-up report as required by the Technical Specifications.

The removal of the diesel-driven fire pump requires that an addit _onal source of fire suppression water be provided as a backup to the electric motor-driven fire pump. The Rainier Rural Fire Protection District has agreed to station a pumper truck at the site while the diesel-driven pump is cut of service. A draf ting connection from the cooling tower basin will provide the necessary pumper water supply. The pumper will be aligned to discharge into the fire main via Hydrant No. 3 located south of the Secu-rity Building. The pumper will only be used in the event of an electric motor-driven fire pump failure. It is anticipated that the system will be in this configuration from October 20 through November 12, 1980.

Sincerely, S

C.
