Docket No. 50-320 IE Bulletin 79-24 This is in response to IE Bulletin 79-24 and is submitted subsequent to our letter of July 9,1980 (ILL 335).
The subject Bulletin, "Frozan Lines" calls attention to the need for adequate j
winterization to prevent the freezing of piping exposed to lov temperatures.
1 At TMI-2, an Ad Hoc Winterization Committee had been established prior to receipt of this bulletin and had held its first meeting on September 19, 1979.
Such en action was censidered appropriate as TMI-2 was to go through the winter in the cold shutdown mode for the first time.
Some five meetings were held to identify possible trouble spots, assign re-sponsibilities for action, and makes necessary follow-through.
The adequacy l
of the Committee's activities is borne out by the fact that the only freeze-I up experienced last winter was in connection with the non-safety-related temporary auxiliary boiler.
l Prior to the 1980-81 winter, all departments will be instructed to review l
their winterization protection to assure that protection which was in place and served its purpose last winter has not been degraded.
This will be done annually.
This constitutes our response to IE Bulletin 79-24.
