PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 and 50-306 In response to IE Bulletin No. 80-20, the following is offered:
1.
About 42 switches of the type described are in use in various safety-related systems at this facility.
2.
NSP was notified of the potential problems with these switches via Westing-house correspondence dated July 18, 1980, which included Westinghouse Tech-nical Bulletin NSD-TB-80-9.
In response to the Technical Bulletin, conti-nuity checking was done and the results forwarded to Westinghouse on July 1, 1980. Additional continuity checking has been done; no failures were de-tected. A Special Order was issued that requires testing monthly and after each switch usage.
3.
A Design Change has been initiated which will effect a rewiring of indicating lights that will provide indication of total circuit continuity readily visible to the control room operator. Rewiring in Unit 1 will be completed during the current refueling outage, and Unit 2 during its refueling outage in February 1981.
To date, approximately 250 manhours were spent in the necessary engineering re-quired by this Bulletin. The testing required takes 4 manhours per monthly test.
Modification and testing associated with corrective actions will take about 90 manhours.
