NRC STAFF STATEMENT OF MATERIAL FACTS AS TO WHICH THERE IS N0 GENUINE ISSUE 1.

A marine biomass farm capable of producing an equivalent amount of energy (1000 MWe) would cowr hundreds of square kilometers of ocean.

2.

Marine biomass energy systems will not become commercially viable for at least the next 15-20 years.

3.

The development of commercial marine biomass facilities awaits extensive research into the basic biology of algae and the development of unique marine engineering concepts.

4.

The economic feasibility of marine biomass is uncertain due to the lack of a finalized engineering concept and the intrinsic nature (e_.g. low grade fuel) of biomass systems.

5.

Marine biomass farms may produce serious environmental consequences such as thel(a) establishment of new species in and around the biomass fam that may be of little use to man and actually interfere with production, 8010060007
