Facility Operating License No. DPR-61 Docket No. 50-213 Reportable Occurrence 80-13/1P

Dear Mr. Grier:

In accordance with the reporting requirements of Connecticut Yankee Technical Specifications, Section 6.9.2.a(2), the following report is submitted.

On September 26, 1980, while the plant was at 100% power, a Chemistry Technician was attempting to obtain a monthly sample from the Pressurizer Relief Tank. He mistakenly opened the Volume Control Tank Gas Space i

Sampic Valve which resulted in a gas release from the sample hood via the Primary Auxiliary Building ventilation system to the main stack.

The release rate exceeded the allowable instantaneous gaseous release rate limit specified in Environmental Technical Specification Section 2.4.3.1 for a period of three minutes. The total dose at the site boundary was calculated to be.0003 millirem.

The Technician's dosimeter indicated a total exposure of 9 millirem which includes exposures from earlier sampling. A whole body count was taken and showed no internal activity.

The Technician has been instructed to use more caution when sampling in the future. Also, a lock has been placed on the VCT sample isolation valve.

A follow-up report will be submitted within fourteen days.

Very truly yours, A

W Goos
