Ziemann letter to R. L. Bolger dated January 13, 1976.

Dear Mr. Ziemann:

This letter is in response to the recuest of reference (c) for a safety analysis justifying the storage of Quad-Cities and Dresden Stations' spent fuel in pools other than those specifically licensed to store such fuel.

Enclosure (1) to this letter supplements the information provided by reference (b) to provide this safety analysis.

The report concludes that the storage of fuel from other reactors has a lesser impact than fuel from the associated reactor.

The report did not address the transportation of spent fuel between stations.

Should these additional shipments become necessary, the possibility of a transportation accident will increase m a result

Mr. Dennis L.

Ziemann April 23, 1976 of greater c::posure.

However, the pro'cedures for licensing of shipping casks and shipment of spent fuel are well esti.. Lished.

Spent fuel shipments between stations would be undertaket only if significant impact on unit availability would result.

At this time, commonwealth Edison has no definite plans to move spent fuel between the stations but has provided the safety analysis should the need develop in the future.
