Dear Sir:
I
SUBJECT:
Primary Containment Analysis Reference (c) above indicated we would provide you with a com-l-
mitment to one of the acceptable alternatives for protection of the l
_ Reactor Recirculation Pump Lubrication System.
The alternative we have chosen incorporates an oil collection system which is designed to withstand a Category I seismic event and continue to be abic to collect and drain leakage that may occ,ur during that event. A de-scription of the. system follows:
The General Electric motors used on the Vermont Yankee reactor recirculation pumps are of a bath type (unpressurized) design.
The only piping that is external to the motor is a fill and drain connection for each bearing.. The only potential for oil leakage would be as a' result of an oil cooler rupture which would leak water into the oil and overflow the oil bath reser-voir down.the armature onto the pump. We will provide an over-flow collection system at cach oil bath reservoir, sized to i
handle the flow from a ruptured oil cooler. We will collect
[
the overflow and deposit it in a closed, vented container.
The collection system _will be designed to withstand Category I seismic events.
