Subject:

NRC Order dated August 29, 1980

Reference:

NRC Order dated August 29, 1980

Dear Mr. Denton:

This letter is in response to the NRC Order dated August 29, 1980 in which Operating License DPR-34 was modified to require that certain information be supplied to the NRC on or before November 1,1980, related to the Environmental Qualifications of Class IE Electrical Equipment contained in the operating systems of the Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station exposed to High Energy Line Break ambient conditions.

In previous correspondence to the NRC dated March 18,1980, April 11, 1980 and April 18, 1980, information concerning all aspects of the Environmental Qualifications except for long term aging of Class 1E Electrical Equipment at the Fort St. Vrain plant was submitted.

PSC is presently developing a position to submit to the NRC that the concerns for "long term aging" effects are not applicable to Fort St.

Vrain because of its utilization of a High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor as its heat source, continuous access to equipment for maintenance and the short time interval over which the accidents of interest transpire.

At the time of submittal of this position, all parties will be informed.

PSC intends to comply with the November 1,1980 date for addressing aging as it relates to FSV.
