Reference:

AECM-80/81, 4/18/80 On March 21, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. M. Mendonca of the NRC, Washington, D.C., of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. The deficiency concerns unqualified cable insulation repairs in 680 V cable supplied by Rockbestos.

We are continuing to investigate the safety implications of this deficiency.

As previously reported, our investigation pertains only to the cable insulation repairs that were not qualified in accordance with IEEE Standard 383.

We expect the qualification tests for repair materials used in past manufacturing processes to be finalized by October 31, 1980.

Our final report on this matter,which will include an analysis of these tests and supplier data will be provided to you no later than December 16, 1980.
