3 Gentlemen':
During recent conversations with members of this office, members of your staff expressed an interest in being kept informed of the progress of Georgia Power Company's (CPC) efforts toward. compliance with I&E Bulletin 79-01B. Following is the status'of-GPC's recent efforts for your information:
On August 18, 1980, GPC received from Bechtel a report containing qualification data,. analysis, and recommendations for 95% of the electrical components within Bechtel's scope.
This office will review the report and we expect to submit it to your office within a few days. This report will.be in your office approximately two weeks beyond our most recent estimated date of submittal.
i The ' schedule for evaluating the remaining equipment, NSSS components within General Electric's scope, remains unchanged from our previous correspondence with your office. However., GPC realizes that this schedule extends.beyond the tentative date of November 1, 1980, set-by the'NRC.
In an attempt to bring our efforts in line with the November date, GPC has joined a BWR Oraer's Group effort on I&E Bulletin 79-01B. The group will assemble ~a Class.1E Equipment Matrix for components consnon to at least 4 plants. A consultant, then, will evaluate the information available from all sources (AE's, NSSS suppliers,' vendors,' test facilities,' and utilities).
The remaining. outstanding components would require additional
- qualification work and analysis individually or jointly by the utilities.
With this generic approach, GPC intends to complete the equipment qualification evaluation program by-the November date.. We continue'
- to expect that any components found not to have adequate qualification data wi11'either be subjected to'a qualification test program or be replaced a'ecording'to your announced schedule, June 30, 1982.
