Dear Ms. Thomas:

I have been asked by Mr. Engelhardt to respond to your letter to him dated September 15, 1980, concerning your desire to be kept informed of all develop-mants relating to the possibility of the use of the Barnwell fluclear Fuel Plant as an Away-From-Reactor storage facility for comercial-nuclear waste and the fact that you were not informed of the Department of Energy Federal, Register notice dated August 15, 1980, which conccrned the possible use of the Barnwell facility.

As !!r. Engelhardt indicated to you in his letter of February 21, 1979, we will make every effort to keep you advised of any correspondence, transcripts of meetings or other naterials related to the use of the Barnwell Plant for Away-From-Reactor storage.

We cannot, however, assure you that we will be able to inform you of all actions or proposals of other Federal agencies that may concerri the use of the Barnwell facility.

To assure Environmt.ntalists, Inc., that it has sufficient notice of actions of other Federal ageiicies which may relate to the Barnwell facility, we suggest that specific requests be made to the Federal agencies, such as the Department of Energy, that are considering the use of the Barnwell facility and that the Federal Register be periodically examined.

We appreciate the fact that your organization may not be able to afford this publication.

However, the Federal, Register is widely available.

I have been informed by the library personnel at the Richland County Public Library (1400 Sumter Street, Columbia, South Carolina) that the Federal _ Register 880923do3T

{

os,- is avajiable there as well as at several other libraries in the Columbia, South Ceirolina, area including the South Carolina State Library (1500 Senate Street, Columbia, South Carolina) and the University of South Carolina Doc:;ments Department (Columbia, South Carolina).

If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to direct any further inquiries you may have to me.

Sincerely CIpl.l :l h
