SUBJECT:
U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REVIEW OF EXPORT LICENSE APPLICATION XB1337
Dear Ms. Chance:
I am writing to update you on the status of your export license application (XB1337).
The application is currently under review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC),
for up to 1.2 gigabecquerels (GBq) californium-252 (Cf-252), contained in two sealed sources, each containing 0.6 GBq. Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 110.40(d),
states in part, if the Commission has not completed action on a license application within 60 days after receipt of the Executive Branch (EB) judgement, the NRC is required to inform the applicant in writing of the reason for the delay.
This application involves an embargoed destination, the regulatory review is comprehensive, requiring reviews from several technical offices, as well as, the Offices of Executive Director of Operations and Office of the General Counsel. The next review stage is the final review - which is the Commission review.
The NRC received the final EB judgment on May 2, 2019, but additional time is needed for NRC staff and management to complete its review of the export application.
You may contact Jane Chimood the licensing officer assigned to your case, at any time.
Ms. Chimood can be reached at (301) 287-9225 or Jane.Chimood@nrc.gov.
Sincerely, 11/29/2019 X Peter J. Habighorst Peter J. Habighorst Signed by: Peter J. Habighorst Peter J. Habighorst, Chief Export Controls and Nonproliferation Branch Office of International Programs
