50-309 UNIT Maine Yankee DATE 800812 CO:'PLETED BY F. C. Beers TELEPliONE 617-366-9011 X2215 REPORT MO.'.TH Julv 1980 SC:!ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of the month the plant was operating at full load.

On July 2 a load reduction to 557. was performed due to higher than normal vibration readings on the P-2A =ain feedwater pump. The pu=p's thrust bearing clearances were adjusted and the purp/ motor couplins was re-aligned. The plant was back at full load on July 5.

On July 18 load uas reduced to 193% in response to an apparent increase in turbine / generator differential expansion. Final resolution of this problem was determined to be an instrumentation calfunction.

On July 20, while the plant was still holding a 933 power, an auxiliary operator mistakenly opened the turbine thrust bearing, trip test valve and caused a turbine / reactor trip.

The plant returned to power that same day and was back at full load on July 21 where it remained for the rest of the nonth.
