MIDLAND UUCLEAR PLANT - UNIT NO. 2 LINER PLATE INTERIM REPORT - DOCKET NO. 50-330 On March 30, 1977 and May 16,1977, per 10CFR50 55(e), ve provided interim.
reports on the bul 1ng of the Unit No. 2 liner plate at the Midland site.
This 6
report is again an interim report in that the c'orrective action.and the safety implications of the correction to the liner plate and concrete have not been fully determined.
1 Since providing the May 16,19TI report, the following activities have been mcmpleted:
1.
Removing the 1/2" plate around the penetrations at azimuths 263 and 26'7 cud elevations 605'-0" and 609'-0".
2.
Re=t.' ring the leak chase channels at aziwths 250 and 270 and the remaining portions of the liner plate attached to tha W14 x 61 columns at those azimuths.
3.
Remgving the vind girder at elevation 670'-0 ' andi between azimuth 270 and 280 h.
Removin6 embedded angles and chipping concrete in parts of the exposed surface.
5 Removing two vindows in the liner plate near elevation 670' between azimuths 270 an.1 280 to allov inspection of the concrete vall where velds attaching the vi'.id girder to the liner plate caused small tears and puckering of the plate.
6.
Cutting an 8" x' h-1/2"- trench in the base slab at the bottom of the subject panel agd extending 6" on each side of the Wlh x 61 columns at azimuths 250 and 270 to determine the line of connection of the replacement panel at the
, bottom.
The. leak chase between the liner and knuckle plate at elevation 593' 8007320has been tested and found to hold the test pressure.

- W rk is ' continuing to complete the evaluation of damage, the required tests and analyses, and the -definition of repair methods.
The iterative process of desi6n and developmental / qualification testing in combination with the time necessary.
to cure the concrete test specimens are the main reasons for the duration of this
