Dear Mr. Murphy:
In accordance with the unders+=nM nas which were reflected in Chairman Seaborg's letter of October 3, 1963, to Admiral Karo, I se forwarding Volumes I and II of the Preliminar/ Safety Analysis Report submitted by Consumers Power Company. The report contains technical information on two pressurized water nuclear reactors which the Company proposes to construct.
The proposed reactors, designated as the Midland Plant Units 1 and 2, are to be located at the applicant's site on the south shore of the Tittabawasee River, south of the city.of Midland in Midland County, Michigan.
Although Consumers Power Company has not yet submitted the administrative portion of its application, which contains the formal request for a facility license for authorization to construct and opertste the proposed nuclear power plants, we intend to begin the technical portion of our review at this time. Therefore, we would appreciate receiving the results of a review by the Coast and Geodetic Survey concerning the seismological characteristics of the proposed reactor location which may have a bearing upon our evaluation of the suitability of the proposed site.
