OLB, DRL PROPOSED B&W REACTOR SDIULATOR On September 6, 1968, I visited the B&W training facility to discuss their proposed reactor simulator.
B&W proposed to use the simulator in a twelve week course as follows:

Six weeks of procedural training with half in classroom and half on the simulator.
B.
Two weeks at the Low Power Reactor for ten startups, core loading and reactor parameter experiments.
C.
Four weeks of shift operations utilizing the simulator.
This part of the training will include evaluation of the operators response to abnormal conditions.
l The simulator is capable of complete plant simulation and approxi-mately 100 casualties can be programmed from the instructor's console. The computer has the capacity to accommodate both two and three loop plants. The simulator can be modified to represent both two and three loop plants.
However, B&W has not made plans to simulate three loop plants.
The present schedule for the simulator is as follows:
A.
Firm design - November 15, 1968 B.
Acceptance by B&W - September, 1969 C.
First class - July 1970 The Oconee I startup test program results will be incorporated into the simulator mathematical models.
I observed a plywood mock-up of the simulated control room and was impressed with the compactness of the console and the manner of information display. Bechtel personnel were working with B&W so that the SMUD control room and the simulated control room would be identical.

I told him I wasn't in a position to do this, but would discuss this with him after con-sulting with my supervisor.
