The Babcock & Wilcos Company ATTN:

Mr. Norman S. Elliott, Jr.

Manager, Amelear Training power Generation Division P. O. Box 1260 Lynchburg, Virginia 24505 Centlemen:

This letter conceras the training programs eing conducted by the Babcock & Wilcox Ceapany for applicants who will be seeking "eeld" operator and menfor operator license examinations.

On December 18, 19.58, we informed you that, based on your training brochure and our knowledge of the B&W Simulator, your training programs appeared appropriate to establish that an applicant has had extensive operating experience at a comparable reactor, as re-quired by Section 55.25(b) of 10 CFR Part 55 One of the criterion for accepting your program was that the appli-cants complete a four month assignment at en operating pWR. This requirement was established in order to assure ourselves that an applicant had received training in nuclear power plant operations that cannot be obtained utilising the simulator. At this time, the l

B&U Company did not administer this portion of the training program.

on May 19, 1972, Mr. Deddens, Manager, Nuclear Service, informed us that the B&W Company was considering assuming responsibility for the abou phase of the training program and outlined the services to be provided for three groups of utility perecomel. At subsequent meetings in this office we approved the programs for the three utili-ties involved. However, we have not had the opportunity to review a proposed program to be offered to other utility personnel in the future. Consequently, our requirements for this pertion of the train-ing program remains as indicated in our letter, dated December 18, 1968. Please provide us with the details of your proposed training programs, so that we may determine what, if any, changes abould be made in our present requirements regarding cold applicants who will particirste therein.
