SUBJECT:
CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER This letter is to confirm a telephone conversation between Mr. Jay Thayer of your staff and Mr. W. Butler (NRC) on October 1,1991.
It is cur understanding that Yankee Atomic Electric Company will take the following actions:
1.
Begin a safe and orderly shutdown of the Yankee Nuclear Power Station during the afternoon of October 1, 1991; 2.
Achieve the cold shutdown condition (Mode 5) within 30 hours3.472222e-4 days <br />0.00833 hours <br />4.960317e-5 weeks <br />1.1415e-5 months <br /> of midnight October 1,1991.
As you know, in the next two weeks there will be a series of technical meetings to further assess the Yankee Rowe reactor vessel issues.
Further, we understand that restart will not occur until you receive approval from the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, NRC.
Issuance of this Confirmatory Action Letter does not preclude the issuance of an Order formalizing the above comnitments.
If your understanding differs from that set forth above, please notify ne irmediately in writing.
