Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. 1 & 2, Dockets Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 IE Bulletin 80-15
Dear Mr. Grier:
The subject Bulletin identified a possible loss of the Emergency I!otification System (EI!S) with loss of off-site power.
Although Calvert Cliffs does not have a " station package requiring on-site power" at indicated in the Bulletin, we do have sun-plementary equiument which requires a local 110 volt power supoly.
It was determined that loss of off-site tower would render this local equip-ment and the ENS system inoperable. The NRC Operations Center was notified of this finding via the EMS telephone on June 26 by our Onerations personnel.
Subsequently, a Standing Instruction was issued to the control room operators directing them to notify the NRC Onerations Center within one hour when the ENS is found to be inoperable for any reason.
In addition, C&P Telechone Co. is presently modifying the on-site ENS equipment to be fed from our " Dimension" telephone power supply. This vill provide a continuous DC supply with a battery backup as required by the sub. ject Bulletin.
According to C&P Telephone officials, this modification vill be completed by September 8, at which time ve vill conduct a test to simulate loss of off-site power to verify that the ENS telephones remain ocerable.
