As requested in Mr. A. Schwencer's letter to Mr. A. R. Barton dated April 13, 1979, Alabama Power Company was to provide design details for installing fire barriers for cable trays and conduits.
On August 21, 1980 a working session was held with members of the NRC Staff to discuss these details. The attached provides a sumary of the results of this session and our conclusions.

SUMMARY
OF WORKING SESSION ON INSTALLATION OF FNP-1 FIRE BARRIERS FOR CABLE TRAYS AND CON 0VITS On August 21,1980, personnel' from Alabama Power Company,

Bechtel Power Corporation, Babcock and Wilcox, Gage-Backcock &
Associates (NRC Fire Protection Consultant), and the NRC Staff met to discuss the design and installation of fire barriers for cable trays and conduits for FNP-1..During this session drawings showing locations where the fire barrier material is being installed on Unit 1 were provided and discussed with the NRC Staff.
In addition, details of design and installation for the fire barrier material were discussed #ith and a copy of such information provided

for NRC review. Alabama Power stated that the fire barrier material being used is Kaowool manufactured by Babcock & Wilcox.
Representa-J tives of the material manufacturer answered questions concerning material properties and testing done with the Kaowool. A presentation was given of a complete evolution of installing fire barriers in a specific area indicating the sequence followed for fire barrier design, installation and quality control checks as well as the training provided for the persons performing installation.
At the conclusion of these discussions, a field walkdown of fire barrier installations was conducted to observe such installations in the various stages of completion.
As a result of_ these discussions and the field walkdown, there were no further questions posed by the NRC Staff or its consultant, at that time.

As a result of this working session, Alabama Power Company concludes that it has fulfilled the referenced requirement to provide, for NRC review, design details for installation of fire barriers for cable trays and conduits. Alabanu.'ower Company also believes that the installation of such fire barrier material meets the commitment in the FNP Fire Protection Re-evaluation Program precipitated as a result of Branch Technical Position BTP-9.5-1.
