Scope of the Inspection
- This?inspectionLwas conducted in.accordance with the Memorandum of
' Understanding (BKXJ) between1the' Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the J U. S.f Nuclear Regulatory' Commission..
TheJState inspectors ~ reviewed the licensee's' low level radioactive waste shipment to the burial site j
'according to the attached inspection checklist.
i
'The. shipment contained 280.528 curies of Unit 1, dewatered resin and was< determined to be LSA-Type B Quantity, Class B Waste.
It was stabilized-inLa Chem-Nuclear Polyethelene High Integrity Container (HIC),with a disposal _ volume of 83.4 cubic feet.
The HIC was placed-
'inside a" Chem-Nuclear, NRC certified-Type A cask.
4 s
l The inspectors surveyed the cask and the vehicle for radiation and contamination. - The maximum rad.iation~1evel at the surface of'the cask l
with the. HIC inside was 11.1 mR/hr and 0.49 mR/hr at 2 meters.
The' l
highest removable contamination detected was approximately 0.58 dpm/cm2.
1 i
<The~ inspectors observed the licensee's tindling of the cask to ensure l
compliance with applicable cask procedure (i.e. inspecting, closing,
- sealing, bracing, etc...).
A visual inspection of the vehicle was performed _to ensure that the vehicle was in an acceptable condition for i
transport.
The inspectors also reviewed the shipping papers for
