[ " NR6 Requist i Itm 2.2.1.2 Th'e licensee s submittals identified the. 0-List in Section 17.3 of the FSAR i~

M as comprising the index which identified safety related systems. - The description included methods used for its. development, verification,

^

validation,Eand the process by which new safety related items are entered.

These lists;are controlled by the FSAR' update and control process.. However,

- thisL11st may.not contain all safety related components. In addition, it appears that this list may have been superseded by the total-plant numbering 3

system-(TPNS) which is a part of the maintenance management planning system (MMPS). This is a computerized system used-for scheduling and tracking l

plant maintenance and modifications which has provisions (TPNS) for identifying plant-components as' safety or non-safety related.

The licensee needs-to confirm the use of these systems for classifying components as safety-related; describe how the system provides

classification information; identify the group that maintains the system;

! describe how and by what procedures the system is maintained-current; describe how. unauthorized changes to system information are-prevented; and how the classification information in the system is made available to users.

APCo Response - Item 2.2.1.2 By letter dated February 15, 1984, Alabema Power Company submitted

information describing:the Alabama Power Company program which ensures'that all components of safety related systems necersary for accomplishing required-safety functions are identified. The program ~for identifying safety related systems and components at Farley Nuclear Plant is embodied s

within plant procedures, design organization procedures, the Alabama Power Company Operations-Quality Assurance Policy Manual, and Section 17.3 of the l

FSAR. While the 0-List in Section-17.3 may not list all safety related-I components, it is a master' list of safety related systems and major components, structures, etc. for the systems. The 0-List also identifies categories of components as safety related when such components are not explicitly listed-within'the 0-List. The 0-List has not been superceded by the total plant numbering system. The total plant numbering system is a component identification system which has been in existence since April lo, 1970.

The MMPS referenced in the NRC request for additional information is part of the Farley Nuclear Plant Information Management System (FNPIMS). The FNPIMS provides a more detailed list of components and subcomponents than the 0-List.

FNPIMS aids the procurement, maintenance, operations, and daily planning departments in the identification of safety related components and subcomponents.

As described in the February 15, 1984 response to Item 2.2.1.3, Altbama Power' Company utilizes several controlled source documents to iden.ify safety related components and subcomponents.

Although it is not considered the 0-List, the FNPIMS database contains a field for designation of components as safety or non-safety related.

Designation of components and

]

subcomponents as safety or non-safety related.is accomplished by an U

evaluation of that component against source documents.

FNPIMS database is t

controlled by authorized individuals. 'The FNPIMS has access terminals located throughout the plant site, at the Birmingham General Office, and at the design organizations.

It is the position of Alabama Power Company that the programs currently utilized by Alabama Power Company meet the requirements of Generic Letter 83-28,-Item 2.2.1.2.
