The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing to amend its regulations with respect to those licensees engaged in industrial radiography.. The amendment will. provide.a. license applicant the Option to affirm to the NRC that its-radiographers will be certified by the American Society for Hondestructive Testing in lieu of describing its radiation-safety training and testing program for its radiographers. The amendment is expected to provide greater assurance of.. safe radiographic operations.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT NRC PROPOSES TO AMEND ITS REGULATION ON LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONS INVOLVED IN INDUSTRIAL RADIOGRAPHY The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing to amend'its regulations to provide an applicant for a license in industrial radiography the option to affirm to the NRC that its radiographers will be certified by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing in. lieu of submitting to NRC a description-
- of its radiation safety training and testing program for its radiographers.
Some iaf the overexposure incidents involving radiographers have been attributed to ineffective training.
It is anticipated that this amendment will provide greater assurance of safe radiographic operations.
