Gentlemen:'

j

. Enclosed are five (5) copies of a revision to the Plant Unique Analysis Report (PUAR) for Plant. Hatch Units 1 and 2.

The. PUAR is the.

j licensing 1 basis report which documents the adequacy of the Plant Hatch containment, as, evaluated during the Mark I~Long Term Containment program.-

The PUAR revision. incorporates the, analysis demonstrating the structuraicadequacy of the torus support column rock bolts,'the adequacy 1

.e of -the torus considering weld induced shrinkage, and the method and instrumentation used to monitor suppression pool temperature.

-}

l Torus Rock Bolts On December-1 1988 Georgia Power Company (GPC) met with NRC representatives. from. Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) and Region II regarding the deflected rockbolts ' that had been. observed in the Hatch Unit I torus anchorage.

Based on the presentations made during the meeting, it was concluded that the deflected rockbolts were adequate to resist postulated uplift loads.

By letter dated March 23, 1989, GPC submitted a final report for NRC review and committed to revise the Plant Unique Analysis Report (PUAR) to reflect the evaluations performed for l

.the final report.

Following the March 23, 1989 submittal, GPC was

~ informed that the NRC staff had reviewed the report and considered the E

. issue closed.

This was documented in a July 6,1989 NRC letter to GPC.

.i Thel revised Unit '1 and Unit 2 PUARs are submitted consistent with the GPC March 23, 1989 commitment.

)i Sucorenion Pool Temoerature Monitorino j

On February 21, 1989, GPC provided a response to a Notice of Deviation identified in Inspection Report (IR) 88-38.-

The deviation i

i.

noted that GPC used four temperature sensors, T48-N009 A-D (referred to f

as the N009 series) to measure bulk pool temperature, instead of eleven i

temperature sensors _ (T48-N301 through 311) which were installed during i'

the Mark I Program and referenced in the PUAR.

Georgia Power has corrected this deviation by implementing administrative controls which requite bulk suppression pool temperature to be taken as the mean of the N009 series average and the N300 series 4'

average.

This calculated bulk suppression pool temperature is used for

'Technient Specifications surveillance.

As committed in our February 21, 1989 letter, we have revised paragraph 7.5 of the PUAR which describes i

suppression pool temperature monitoring.

Chhnges to Technical-Specifications relative to suppression pool temperature instrumentation will be submitted by January 31, 1990.

He trust the enclosed document satisfies your needs.

Please contact this office if you have questions.

Sincerely,

k.. h ? Y H. G. Hairston, III J
