South Texas Project Units 1&2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 IE Bulletin No.79-03A Houston Lighting & Power Company recently contacted you concerning a clarification of the requirements of NRC IE Bulletin 79-03A, " Longitudinal Weld Defects in ASME SA-312, Type 304 Stainless Steel Pipe."
In evaluating the pioing design stresses to determined those which exceed 85% of the Code allowable stresses, HL&P wishes to limit the evaluation to those calculations only concerned with pressure.
As you indicated in your conversation with Mr.
P. L. Walker of HL&P Licensing, this interpretation is acceptable to the NRC.
