Inspection on August 11, 1980.

Areas Inspected This special, announced inspection involved two inspector-hours on site at the fuel storage warehouse at Greenville, South Carolina with respect to license conditions and storage procedures.

Results No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.

Facility The w>rehc se is a typical windowless industrial building of about 20,000 square ' feet with a concrete base, metal frame and insulated metal panel j

construction.

The warehouse is - located within a separately fenced area adjacent to several other large warehouse facilities. The building location anc structure' would preclude mechanical damage or flooding as required by Section 2.2(b) of Appendix A of the licensee's application.

Safety and Security The facility.is locked and entrance to the building is made only when a.

General Electric personnel are present except for routine fire and safety inspections performed by Eastern Distribution, Inc. employees.

All visits are recorded in a 1cgbook.

The warehouse is equipped with a wet sprinkler system. The system is, equipped with a Firematic 6 " Alarm Valve, Model F175-W-1973 and supplied through a 6" post valve just outside the fence. The post valve is w_-___--

4 : locked in the open position. There are two centrally located fire hoses and several dry chemical fire extinguishers in the facility.

The facility is equipped with an ADT alarm system and personnel stated c.

that the warehouse complex -is protected by guard dogs dating non-routine work times.

Posting The. exterior and interior of the building including all entry doors are posted with metal " radioactive material" and " radiation area" signs. Two bulletin boards in-the building are por ted with regula.tions and notices required by 10 CFR 19.11.

Copies of the licensee's procedures relating'to handling and storage of shipping containers are also posted. It was noted that the procedures were issued in 1978 or 1979. The inspector was informed that the procedures were the current revision. The inspector had no further questions.

Fuel Container Storage The inspector examined the stored shipping containers and verified that the fuel element.s were packaged, stored and labelled in conformance with the licensee's procedures and regulatory requirements. No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.
