The following is submitted in response to your letter dated March 10, 1980 concerning I.E.Bulletin 80-05.
Georgia Power Company has reviewed the following tanks:
- Volume Control Tank
- Boric Acid Storage Tank
- Boron Recycle Holdup Tank Component Cooling Water Surge Tank
- Auxiliary Component Cooling Water Surge Tank Waste Evaporator Concentrates Holdup Tank i
Adequate measures have been taken to protect against vacuum condi-tions in these tanks. Tank vent lines have been sized consistent with pump suction lines to ensure that fluid flow out of these tanks cannot exceed air flow into these tanks. These tanks and vents are located indoors; therefore, freeze protection for the vents is not provided.
The volume control tank operates with a cover gas. This tank is protected from a vacuum condition by a cover gas makeup path with a control valve sized to admit the cover gas at a rate high enough to keep up with the maximum rate of liquid removal from the tank.
The only tanks with valves in the vent lines are the boron recycle holdup tanks. The primary vent line is equipped with two air operated, normally open valves in series which vents to the tank room atmosphere.
Another vent for these tanks is provided through a continuous vent from the piping penetration filter exhaust system, a safety-related system. There-fore, an inadvertent closure of a valve in the primary vent line would not OFFICIAL COPY t$ 009 0 40(,35 g

These tanks are considered acceptable and no additional action is planned.
