Gentlemen:

As you are aware, cur contractor, Rockwell Hanford Operations, has been in the process of preparing to conduct an inspection and evaluation of the high level liquid waste storage system at your Western New York Nuclear Service Center Facility. This inspection and evaluation has been developed from recommendations previously provided to the staff by the Savannah River Plant (SRP). A report of SRP's review and their reco::nendations was transmitted to you in our letter dated Jurie 2,1978 from Mr. Sheldon Meyers, former Director, Division of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety.

For your irformation, we are enclosing a copy of a report by Rockwell Hanford Op. rations entitled, " Inspection and Evaluation of Nuclear Fuel Services High-Level Vaste Storage System (RHO-LD-130)." This report provides a brief overview of the work to be performed under our contract with Rockwell, and this report is intended for distribution to rne::bers of the public and interested officials from other government agencies.

It is anticipated that this report will be updated on an approximately annual basis as the work progresses.
