June 11,1980 President Jimy Carter
%e White !!ouse Washington, D.C. 20004
Dear President Carter:
Allowing the NRC to okay the release of dangerous radioactive elements from Threci Mile Island indicates a cavalier attitude on the part of the NRC for the physical and mental w el farc of the residents of llarrisburg and environs.
This action is arbitrary by the NRC and arrogant by the industry to proceed on projects such as these at the expense of the people who live beside the plant and the general public around the count y who are opposed to nuclear power.
The NRC has proven to be an agency not absolutely trustworthy nor deserving of public confidence, and the industry to be completely careless of all but profit. This may illustrate the maxim " money is the root of evil" because o n ly for money's sak'e is 'IllI and f ts genre not abandoned, t" ~
'Why are
' e NRC and the industry together able to make such decisions against tae interest of the people? And why do you allow it?
Sincerely yours,
/
Joan E. Ladd
