10027 In the Matter of Consumers Power Company Midland Plant, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-329 and 50-330

Dear Chairman Murphy:

This is in response to the Staff's letter mailed July 10 and received this morning requesting an extension of its t;me for the filing of certain Rosponses until July 24, 1972.

We object to the extension, and also to the filing of an application for adjournment so late that for practical purposes its granting is unavoidable unless the Board is to be denied the information it seeks.

The same rules apply to the Staff as.to all other parties.

All have conflicting obligations.

Except in unavoidable emergency, not here alleged., all chould be able to anticipate what commitments cannot be met well before the day of compliance.

Simply b e e n ii n e the oral hearing phase of the cane han been concluded is no reason to relegate the litigation to the bottom of the heap.

M Respectfully, ym
