Ilonorable Elford A. Cederberg House of Representatives
Dear Mr. Cederberg:
Mr. Robert O'Neill has asked us to reply to your March 27 letter.
letter forwarding Mrs. Mary Sinclair's most recent Since we do not know of any documents, draft or othervise, which resemble the ones Mrs. Sinclair describes, we assume that she is referring to:
1.
an October 1973 draft of the two-volume " Task Force F.eport to the Director of Regulation" which we made public early this year; and an April 1973 interim report to the commissiun on the 2.
status of the AEC Regulatory Staff's consideration of population density guidance for use in c6nsidering alternative sites for nuclear power plants as required by the National Environmental. Policy Act.
The draft of the Task Force Report, which is not substantively different from the final version, was placed in our Public Document Room at 1717 H Street,.N.W., here in Washington in February and has been available to anyone, including the Consolidated National Intervenors, for inspection or copying since that time.
Since there has been so much interest in it, we now have placed a copy of the internal Regulatory Staff working paper on population considerations in the Public Document Room.
This document does not even imply that nuclear power plants presently operating or under construction are not safely sited.
In fact, quite the contrary is true; all of them have been found acceptable in terms of population density as well as all other safety considerations.
The AEC is continuing work to develop generally applicable environ-mental siting guides for nuclear power plants.

Honorable Elford A. Cederberg Page Two We are sure that Mrs. Sinclair could arrange for the Consol-idated National Intervenors' staff here to review the draft of the Task Force Report for her.
If she would like a copy for her personal use, it can be obtained by writing to the Chief, Public Proceedings Staff, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Washington, D.C. 20E.5.
The Public Proceedings Staff would nrrange to reproduce one for her at a. cost of 10 cents a page.
We are enclosing a copy of the internal working paper on population considerations.
