Dear Mr. Cherry:
This letter transmits to you certain materials which were relied upon by the individuals who prepared the NRC Staff Supplemental Direct Testimony and NRC Staff Rebuttal Testimony which was filed in this proceeding today.
The materials are divided into three categories.
One category consists of those materials of which the Staff does not have multiple copies which can be made available to the parties for their permanent use.

in this category have been made available for your use at the NRC Inspection and Enforcement Offices located at Glen Ellyn, Illinois,.
j in the latter part of December. The second category consists of those I
. documents which are readily available to all parties to this proceeding,

and so additional ::opies are not beino provided.
The final category consists of those documents to which you have not had prior access and these are being transmitted with this letter with two exceptions which i
are noted below.
In the case of "NRC Staff Supplemental Testimony of Arnold H. Meltz on Applicants' Ability to Finance Construction of-the Midland Plant," Mr.
Meltz relied upon articles appearing in the February 1,1977 and f
i January 28, 1977 issues of the Wall Street Journel. Copies of these r
articles are enclosed. Mr. Heltz further relied on the Annual Report for the Consumers Power Company -~ 1975, Cortnon Stock Prospectus dated November 9,.1976, and." Licensee's Further Answers to Interrogatories

i In the case of "NRC Supplemental Direct Testimony of Sidney E. Feld, on the Alternative of Dow Generating its Own Steam and Electric Power,"
and in "ftRC Staff Supplemental Direct Testimony of Sidney E. Feld Uodating Coal Cost Estimates," Dr. Feld relied on the documents which are indicated as references at the end of each piece of his testimony. Copies of all these references are presently available to the parties or will be anilable with the filing today of the Staff's Supplemental Direct and Rebuttal Testimony.
In addition, enclosed is ". six-paae document consisting of Dr. Feld's notes and hand calculations to support these two pieces of testimony.
Finally, with regard to Dr. Feld's testimony on coal costs, Dr. Feld relied on certain data available from FPC Fom 423.
These forms are presently being transmitted to the NRC from the Federal Power Conmission and upon their receipt will be supplied to you.
With regard to "NRC Staff's Supplemental Direct Testimony of Jack Roberts -
Nuglear Fuel Costs Analysis," Mr. Roberts relied on references noted at the end of his testimony, copies which are available to the parties in this proceeding. fir. Roberts also relied upon " Guide for Economic i
Evaluation of Nuclear Reactor Designs," NUS-531, dated January 1969; Nuclear Power Growth, WASH-ll39 (1974); and Vol. 4 of " Final Generic Environmental Statement on the Use of Recycled Plutonium on Mixed Oxide Fuel in Light Water Cooled Reactors"~(GESf!O), NUREG-0002. Copies of these documents are enclosed. Also enclosed is a twelve-page document consisting of the hand calculations employed by Mr. Roberts in developing his testimony.
l With regard to " Testimony of Walter J. Gundersen" Mr. Gundersen relied upon a computer program, the listing of which is enclosed alono with the computer program printouts. Two computer program printouts are enclosed.
One is a 1982 printout without Midland 1 and 2 and the second is the 1982 printout with Midland.
With regard to the Rebuttal Testimony filed by the NRC Staff today, neither Mr. Meltz nor Mr. Gundersen relied upon any additional documents.
In the case of Dr. Feld, he has listed at the end of his testimony the references he relied upon.in preparino that rebuttal testimony.
References 3,s 4, and 6 were made available to you the latteg part of December at the HRC's Glen Ellyn offices as indicated above.
With regard to the remaining references, they are, for the large part, voluminious and bulky.
Efforts will be made to have these references available for your insnection in Chicago the week of March.7,1977, subject to their return prior to the appearance of Dr. Feld.
