Docket No. 50-322

Dear Members of the Board:

Reference is nede to Richard K. Hoefling's letter to you dated July 19, 1978.

Enclosed with that letter, for the information of the Board and parties, was a copy of SAND 77-1927 entitled " Transport of Radionuclides in Urban Environs:

Working Draft Assessment" (prepared by Sandia Labs).

I am now advised that the following contractor (Sandia Labs) report is available for public distHbution: NUREG/CR-0743. Transportation of Radionuclides in Urban Envimns: Draft Envimnmental Assessment.

It is expected that this contractor's report will fom the principal basis for an NRC Staff Draft GeneMc Envimnmental Impact Statement on Transportation of Radionuclides in Urban Envimns [DGEIS] to be issued at a later date.

In addition, two other recently issued contractor's reports on social impacts (NUREG/CR 0742, " Review and Integration of Existing Literature Conceming Potential Social Impacts of Transportation of Radioactive Materials in Urban Areas" and NUREG/CR 0744, " Identification and Assessment of the Social Impacts of Transportation of Radioactive MateMals in Urban Environments) are expected to provide part of the technical basis for the NRC DGEIS.
