Dear Dr. Snyder:
I was surprised to learn that this office is listed among those who opposed the purging alternative for decontamination
-~f' the Thr9e Mile Island Unit.
o I believe the Final NRC Staff Report (NUREG-0662; Vol. 1
- p. 9-8) misrepresents my response to your letter of April 21.
Although I cautioned the Comission to consider seriously the alternatives, I noted in my letter of May 7 that the document sent for my review presented a compelling case for the purge method.
I regret that my comments were interpreted as a vote against the method and that my personal views were identified as the views of this Office and The Pennsylvania State University.
