NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION fj W ASHIN GTON, D.C. 20555 6l,* hw."I/. b - If u,,
v,.yj CFFICE OF THE CHAMMAN May 23, 1980 The Honorable Richard Thornburgh Governor of Pennsylvania Harrisburg,;. Pennsylvania _17120 r.c --
Dear Governor Th'ornburgh:
On May 15th','- the House Comittee on Interior and Insular Affairs re-ported on the Nuclear Regulatory Comission's FY.1981 Authorization Legislation.
As part of their action, the Comittee included a pro-
~
vision which would establish a Three Mile Island Advisory Panel. The
proposed legislative language requiring NRC to establish such an Ad-visory Panel is attached.
As proposed three members of this panel would be selected by the Nuclear Regulatory Comission from among persons representing agencies of State Government,in the State of Pennsylvaniai,,
The Comission has determined to use its existing authorities to estab-lish such a panel now rather than awaiting House-Senate agreement on the FY 81 Authorization. Accordingly, I would appreciate your recommen-dations' as to appropriate representatives of the State of Pennsylvania for this Panel.
