Consumers Power Company (Midland Plant, Units 1 and 2) 4 Docket Nos.

50-329, 50-330 Gentlemen:

As the Licensing Boards and parties for the Midland Plant proceedings were advised last February, a revised cost estimate with schedule projections for the nuclear facility based upon updated information was sub-

)

mitted to Consumers Power Company by its architect-constructor, Bechtel Power Corporation.

The schedule information was not accepted pending further analysis.

The Company and Bechtel have now completed a detailed four-month review of that preliminary schedule and Consumers Power Company's board of directors has approved a revised schedule.

This current schedule calls for Unit 2 to begin commercial operation in December, 1983; the corre-sponding date for Unit 1 is July, 1984.

The commercial operation dates previously projected by Bechtel were September, 1984 for Unit 2; March,1985 for Unit 1 (electric) and May, 1985 for Unit 1 (steam).

The Company is currently reviewing Bechtel's $3.1 billion cost estimate for the project in light of this new schedule analysis.

The Licensing Boards and the parties will be advised of the results of that review.

Sincerely, 3

Martha E.
