Docket 50-344 License NPF-1

!!r. R. H. Engelken, Director U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region V Suite 202, Walnut Creek Plaza 1990 N. California Blvd.

Walnut Creek, CA 94596

Dear Sir:

On December 31, 1979 we supplemented our letter of September 14, 1979 in response to IE Julletin 79-01A concerning the use of ASCO solenoid valves in safety-related systems in nuclear power plants.

In our response of December 31, we provided a list of ASCO valves that we intended to replace with functionally equivalent and envi-ronmentally qualified NP-1 Type ASCO solenoid valves.

Furthermore, in our letter of December 31, we stated that "every effort will be made to procure and install these valves prior to startup of Cycle 3 refueling".

At the present time, all ASCO solenoid valves, with the exception of SV 8026 " pressurizer relief tank to auto gas analyzer" in the process sampling system, have been replaced with qualificc' valves of the NP-1 Type. Due to equipment and system layout, a r place-ment valve for SV 8026 could nat be installed during this outage; another replacement valve has to be ordered for installation in this specific instance. We anticipate delivery of the necessary components in approximately 20 weeks; therefore, installation should be completed no later than startup af ter our next refueling shutdown which is tentatively scheduled for the spring af 1981.

Should the schedule permit, the valve SV 8026 will be replaced sooner.

Sincerely, N,//

C. Goodwin, Jr.
