Dear Mr. Engelken:

In accordance with the requirements of IE Bulletin 79-01B dealing with environmental qualification of Class 1E equipment and pursuant to our l

response of April 25, 1980 (D. J. Broehl to R. H. Engelken), attached is our 90-day response.

4 is a revised Ibster List of Engineered Safety Feature Systems (Plant Protection Systems) required to function under postulated accident conditions defined as the LOCA/HEI3 inside Containment and HELB outside Containment. is a revision to the written evidence of the environmental qualification for Class 1E electrical equipment identified on the Master List, originally provided uith our 45-day response on March 7, 1980 (C. Goodwin, Jr. to R. H. Engelken).

These attachments have been revised to incorporate the latest information obtained from the review and evaluation of documentation in accordance with Enclosure 4 of Bulletin 79-01B.

Additionally, the revisions to Attachments 1 and 2 partially incorporate the results of an extensive Plant walkdown that recently occurred to verify the accuracy and identi-fication of this equipment; complete evaluation of the applicability of qualification tests to the Plant installation, as determined by the walkdown, is continuing.

A review of the Plant emergency instructions and the instrumentation relied upon in performing those emergency instructions associated with a LOCA (small or large break) and HELB accident has been completed.

- 1 and EI-2, for LOCA and HELB, is either on the Master List (Attach-tw nt 1), not subjected to a harsh environment, or it has been determined that their failure would not impair or affect emergency response. is a list of equipment presently identified as " Outstand-ing Items" by Enclosure 3 of Bulletin 79-OlB (also shown as incomplete items on Attachment 2).

Included with Attachment 3 is a tentative

" Equipment Qualification Plan" for each category to M ed in resolving these outstanding items. As can be seen, the majority s

  • these items are still undergoing the Enclosure 4 (of the Bulletin) review and should be removed when this review is complete which is expected to occur within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Inasmuch as the review and evaluation of Class IE equipment required for accident conditions will continue, subsequent revisions of these attachments will be provided when meaningful data and results are obtained.

Sincerely, h
