O e INTRODUCTION In response to IE-Bulletin No. 80-08, e review was conducted of the design, construction and NDE results of the containment penetration assemblies and their joining welds. Selow are the specific responses to the requested infor=stion. The attached table also identifies the status and scheduled NDE date for those welds not yet examined. Item 1 Our facility contains penetration designs with containment boundary butt-welds between the penetration sleeve and process piping as illustrated in Figure NE 1120-1, Winter 1975 Addendum to the /.SME B & PV Code Section III. \\ \\ / \\. ~ o e The Type I design incorporates a guard pipe surrounding the process line and an anchored flued head not depicted in Figure NE 1120-1(e). ~ These designs incorporate corner velds at the process line to containment attachment and at the containment sleeve closure which are specified to be examined by liquid penetrant or magnetic particic methods. _m

Item 2 The ASME Code 1971 Edition with addenda through Winter 1972 is applicable. Regulatory Guide 1.19 is not applicable per Enrico Fermi Unit 2 FSAR, Appendix A. Radiographic examination has been or will be performed on the con-tainment boundary butt-welds for the designs listed above. The informaticn required for items 2.c. and 2.d. appears in Tables 1 through 4 The NDE reports and repair procedures will be available for review at the site. Item 3 Volumetric examination of the penetration welds will be performed in accordance with the ASME Code. Schedule dates for radiography for those welds not examined to date appear in Tables 1 through 4 Due to the advanced state of construction and complex penetration geometry, extensive engineering review and evaluation have been performed to develop a Code acceptable examination for the Type I penetration nozzle welds. An outside consultant retained by the Constructor has conducted considerable research and numerous tests (including mock-ups of the configuration) in the course of the examination development program. As a result of this effort, it is the consensus of the Owner, the Site Construction Manager, the ANI's Site Representative, the Constructor and its censultant that the method outlined below constitutes a viabic and complete volume-tric examination. ~ { The Type I penetration welds will be examined by RT and may be supplemented by Ur examination if necessary. Radiography will be performed by placing the film in the annulus between the pene-tration sleeve and guard pipe (refer to Figure 1 attached).
