Hall Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory F. O. Box 1663 Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544 Dr. Clark Goodman Professor of Physics THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS University of Houston POOR QUALITY PAGES 3801 Cullen Boulevard Houston, Texas 77004 In the Matter of Consumers Power Company Midland Plant, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-329 and 50-330 Coatismen This is in response to the letter to the Board, dated April 8,1971, from counsel for intervenors Saginaw Valley Nuclear Study Group et al., containing motions to postpone the May lac deadline for the filing of the intervenors' direct testimony and to postpone, as well, the scheduled May 17th date for resumption of the public hearing.

He are opposed to any postponement of the existing deadline for filing of the intervenors' direct testimony. At this point in the proceeding, these intervonors should be in a position to provide the Board, by May 1, with at least a substantial portion of its direct testimony, whether or not discovery is completed. . example, it would appear that these intervenors should be able to submit most, if not all, of their direct testimony challenging the validity of 10 CFR Part 20.

We believe that postponement of the May 17, 1971 date for recon-vening the hearing is premature at this time. We respectfully suggest that the Board defer its ruling on this matter pending further discussion at the conference tentatively scheduled for May 1, 1971.
