Dear Mr. Bauser:
Consumers Power Company, Jackson,Ifichigan, has filed an application for authorization to construct and operate two pressurized water nuclear reactors at the applicant's Midland site.
The site is located on the right shore of the Tittabawasee River, in !!idland Township, Midland County, Michigan, and is adjacent to the Dow Chemical Company's main industrial complex in the City of Midland.
Enclosed is a related notice which has been transmitted to the Office of the Pederal Register for filing and publication.
Ca sumers Power Company submitted its Preliminary SJfety Analysis Report which contains technical informa-tion on the proposed Midland Plant Units 1 and 2, to the Atomic Energy Conssission ou October 30, 1968.
Subsequently, on January 13, 1969, the Company filed its Application for Licenses which contains the formal request for a facility license for authorization to construct and operate the proposed Midland Plant Units 1 and 2.
The proposed reactors are each designed for initial operation at approximately 2,452 thermal megawatts.
The total nat cutput of both plants will be approximately 1325 megawatts electrical, plus 4,050,000 lbs/hr of J00,62708.f f g

Edward J. Bauser i process steam. This steam will be used by the Dow Chemical Company in the manufacture of various products including some items for human consumption. In view of this, we are cooperating with the Food and Drug Administration in order to ensure that the methods of measuring the radioactive levels in the process steam meet its requirements.
Construction of Unit 1 is scheduled for completion between May 1,1973, and May 1,1974, and construction of Unit 2 is scheduled for completion between May 1,1974, and May 1, 1975.
