Dear Mr. Munt:
ing:
Your letter of March 12, 1974 provided guidance on public announcements of events concerning nuclear power plants. Over a year ago, Consuners Power Co=pany starced a progran of issuing press re-leases for any nuclear plant shutdown, any event involving an abnormal release of radioactive materials or apparent nonradiological environ-mental damage. This program was expanded in the fall of 1973 to provide to approximately 50 members of the news media copies of all correspondence originated by Consumers Power Cocpany to the AEC. This program includes all nonroutine and routine reports required by the operating license as well as other itens of correspondence concerning the general conduct of cur business.
Our review inter-e"y leads us to believe that our enisting
)
program provides for the announcements contenplated by your letter. I have asked our electric staff to review this matter with Mr. Keppler and to take such steps as are necessary or appropriate to insure co:plete and continued compliance.
