SITE VISIT TO HIDLAND NUCLEAR POWER PLANT i
PLANT NAME: Midland Nuclear Power Plant DOCKET NUMBERS: 50-329 and 50-330 s -
w On Thursday, May 11, 1978, I met with Jawad Touma, Paul Slaughter and I-Ming Aron of Consumers Power Company at the Midland Nuclear Power Plant for an onsite inspection of the meteorology program.
The site has one 91.5 meter tower with its base located 6 meters below the grade level of the containment building. Initially I anafned this tower and the meteorological instrtmentation contained in a shed adjacent to it. This was followed by a tour around the periphery of the-site.to examine the, cooling pond.and. dike, the
_ Tittabawassee River, and other topographic features of the area.

The ecoling pond etum and the area where the contetrument and other.
Qf buildings are located are among the highest land features in the
. vicinity of the site. The regios surrounding the site is very flat.-

I also looked at the areas where twe 10-oeter towers had been located be; are no longer in use.
During the visit we discussed the site instrumentation, calibration and maiutenance procedures, and topographic features of Two areas ~ of concern that were discussed were the high 1 of D stability (60%) that occurs at the site and the fo-cooling pond fog study.
