SACRAMENTO UTILITY APPLIES FOR PERMIT TO G7XSTRUCT NUCLE.G POWER PIANT The Atomic Energy Coc=ission has received an application from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District for a permit to build a nuclear power plant in Sacramento County, California.
The plant, to be known as the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station g
Unit No. 1, would use a pressurized water reactor and would have an out-put of about 850,000 gross electrical kilowatts.

The Babcock & Wilcox Company has been selected to design, canufacture, and deliver to the site the co=plete nuclear steam supply system. The Westinghouse Corporation will supply the turbine-generator. The Bechtel Corporation has been retained as architect-engineer and supervisor of construction.
The plant would be located on a 2480-acre site about 25 miles southeast of the City of Sacramento. The total cost of the plant, ex-cluding the nuclear fuel, is estimated to be about $143 million. Accord-ing to the application, the plant is expected to begin commercial operation by May 1, 1973.
The application will be reviewed by the AEC Regulatory Staff and by the Commission's Advisory Co=mittee on Reactor Safeguards.
Before the Co==ission can make a determination on the application, a public hearing cast 5e held.
