AEC SCHEDULES PUBLIC HEARING DECEMBER S ON PERMIT FOR PROPOSED DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION IN OHIO The Atomic Energy Commission has scheduled a public hearing December 8 at Port Clinton, Ohio, to consider the application of Toledo Edison Company and the Cleveland build the Electric Illuminating Company for a permit c
proposed Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station ia north central Ohio, about 21 miles east of Toledo.
The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. in the Ohio National Guard Armory,135 West Perry Street, Port Clinton.
It will be conducted by an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board appointed by the Commission.
Members of the board are Walter T.
Skallerup, Jr., a Washington, D. C. attorney; Dr. Walter H.
Jordan, Oak Ridge (Tennessee) National Laboratory, and Dr. Charles E. Winters, Union Carbide Corporation, Washing-ton, D. C.
Mr. Skallerup will be chairman of the board.
Dr. John C. Geyer, the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, has been named alternate technical member and James P. Gleason, a Rockville, Maryland, attorney, as alternate lawyer member.
A prehearing conference will be held at 2 p.m. on November 23 at the same location.
As proposed, the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station will ~
use a pressuri:ed water reactor and will have an initial net electrical capacity of about 872,000 kilcwatts.
The facility
-will be located on a 900-acre site in Ottawa County on the south shore of Lake Erie, about 6 miles northeast of Oak Harb o r.
Toledo Edison Company will be responsible for
' design, construction and operation of the plant.
Babcock 4 Wilcox Company will furnish the nuclear steam supply sys-tem and General Electric Company, the turbine generator.
Bechtel Corporation and its affiliate Bechtel Company have been selected to provide architect-engineer and construction-management services.

. Copies of a safety evaluation of the proposed plant by the AEC Regulatory Staff will be available for public inspec-tion at the Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton, and in the Commission's Public Document Room,1717 H Street, N.W.,
Washington, D. C.
Copies of a statement of the environmental considerations relating to the proposed construction also will be available at the same locations.
Copies of both documents may be obtained by writing to the Director, Division of Reactor Licensing, U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, Washington, D. C. 20545.
Information on how members of the public may participate in the proceedings is detailed in the attached notice of hearing.
Petitions for leave to intervene in the proceedings must be received by the Commission no later than November 18.
A petition received after November 18 will be denied unless the petitioner shows good cause for failure to file it on time.
