CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR NUCLEAR PONER PLANT IN OHIO ISSUED BY AEC A permit to build a nuclear power plant in Ottawa County near Oak Harbor, Ohio, has been issued to the Toledo Edison Company and the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Com-pany by the Atomic Energy Commission's Division of Reactor Licensing.
The Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station will use a pres-surized water reactor and will have an initial cat electrical capacity of about 872,000 kilowatts.
The-facility will be located on a 900-acre site on the south shore of Lake Erie, about 6 miles northeast of Oak Harbor and about 21 miles east of Toledo.
Toledo Edison Company will be responsible for design, construction and operation of the plant.
Babcock 4 Wilcox Company will furnish the nuclear steam supply system and the General Electric Company, the turbine generator.
Bechtel Corporation and its affiliate Bechtel Company have been selected to provide architect-engineer and construction management services.
The cost to construct the facility, including associated transmission facilitics and the first nuclear fuel, is esti-mated to be $305,742,000.
Plans call for completion in 1974.
Issuance of the permit follows reviews by the AEC Regulatory Staff and the Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and a public hearing conducted by an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board.
The board conducted the public hearing in Port Clinton, Ohio, intermittently between December 8,1970 and February 12, 1971 and issued a decision on March 23 authorizing issuance of the permit.
The board's decision is subject to appeal to the Atomic Safety 4 Licensing Appeal Board-by any party to the proceeding.
