Dear Mr. Stolz:
In reference to the Applicant's commitment (re: letter dated 5/7/76, Roe to Butler) to conduct model tests to demonstrate that the Davis-Besse Unit I containment vessel emergency sump was not subject to vortex formation after LOCA, we are enclosing three (3) copies of the Interim Report entitled "ECCS Emergency Sump Model Testing to Investigate Vortex Potential" dated October 15, 1976.
As discussed with our NRC Licensing Manager, Mr. Leon Engle, we are submitting this Interim Report at this time to permit timely staff review of this review item.
A Final Report on this subject will be forthcoming within eight weeks from the date of this letter.
